Important note: There are some USB Wi-Fi adapters that require additional software from your USB Wi-Fi adapter manufacturer. We suggest you get in touch with the USB Wi-Fi adapter manufacturer or refer to your user manual, so you can attain the necessary device drivers. In this example, we are using the Edimax USB Wi-Fi Adapter Network Manager to connect. This may vary for your specific USB Wi-Fi adapter. Also, macOS or OS X can be restrictive. Some users will find issues adding connections to their mac. In these cases, get in touch with your network adapter manufacturer for further support.
Wifi Adapter For Mac Os Sierra
Step 1: Connect your USB Wi-Fi adapter through a USB port to your Mac. Install the necessary drivers for your USB Wi-Fi network adapter. Some USB Wi-Fi adapters may require you to restart your Mac.
I have had good luck on my MacBook pro with one from Anewkodi ( =network-adapter-usb-wi-fi-dongle-adapter-600mbps ) with an external antenna (wireless ac) if you don't mind that -- RTL8812au wireless ac chipset dongles (several of them are out there) -- What I wanted was one that would work for my MacBook pro that triple boots via bootcamp with Sierra, Windows 10, and Linux. There is a mini-cd disk that comes with it but the latest driver download is on the site in the product description - The mac driver says 10.11 (not 10.12) but I installed it and I am working fine in Sierra. The linux driver provided is too old but doing a little research online and reading comments on pages I found one here that worked for Ubuntu 16.0.4: _rtl8821au. Amazon and other online sources have good prices for it. I haven't tried other dongles but this one seems to work fine.
Thank you for the quick reply! I appreciate the information... I am going to order one from Amazon.....my current wifi chip in my MacBook only supports dual band wireless N....I have gigabit broadband speeds so I am hoping to get better wifi speeds using this 5Ghz band.....there just aren't many options out there as far as wifi dongle's go.....again thanks!
Can I just knw if this dongle worked for high sierra? and if so, which drivers you used? Thanks a bunch I really appreciate anyone who can help me with this, as I've been having so many issues with my wifi for almost a year now ?
I am running Sierra successfully on a 2007 24" iMac (7,1) after upgrading the CPU from a T7700 to a T9500 (Penryn) and applying dosdude's Sierra patch. (If your 2008 already has a Penryn chip you don't need to do that part!) Also having the Broadcom wifi incompatibility problem, but I don't really need that on this machine. The unsupported wifi does not prevent Sierra from running. The system just doesn't see any wifi hardware. If I do someday want to replace the wifi hardware, does anyone know what model would work and has the right form factor for this machine?
Sierra will run on that machine, just the standard wifi card will not work, you can replace the standard Broadcom card with a later card, or buy the upgrade that is sold on Amazon. If you do not want to start taking your Mac Pro apart have a search for a suitable wifi dongle, which is what I did.
Easy, just buy edimax N150 wifi nano USB adapter, install the dmg driver, restart than you should see the wireless utility icon on the top right. I tested it on a imac 2007 upgraded to high sierra, with dosdude1 patch. Working flawlessly.

Need software? This product ships with software on CD, or you can download it here. This works on both PowerPC and Intel Macs. This item works with any Mac that has a USB port- you do not need to have an Airport card in your Mac. In fact, because this is independent of your Airport card, if you do have one you will want to turn it off prior to using this. This is a great option to make any Mac without an Airport card into a Wi-Fi capable Mac right away, or if you already have an Airport card you can upgrade your Wi-Fi connection to the newest 802.11n standard at a very low cost (benefits of 802.11n connectivity require use with an 802.11n router- with an 802.11g router this will perform like an 802.11g Wi-Fi product). This makes for a great replacement in the event your Airport card stops working. *If you have previously had an external Wi-Fi USB adapter installed on your Mac before, we recommend uninstalling the software for it to prevent any conflicts. You can contact us with the brand/model of the device you used before if you need help tracking down uninstall software for it. The installation software and instructions you need to set this device up on your Mac are included on a standard sized CD-ROM (many mini USB adapters online come with a mini-CD which will not fit Macs with slot loading drives, so having a full sized CD is important!). At Rokland, we do not just rely on manufacturer specs to advertise compatibility, we have actually tested this model adapter with the above operating systems to ensure that it is compatible and fully functional. The unit that will be sent to you is new and has not been used, but we have tested this model adapter on Macintosh computers and can verify it is 100% compatible. These adapters come bulk packaged from factory, there is no retail box. Having them come to us in this manner really cuts down on our freight cost, allowing us to offer you a lower retail price. Basically to install all you need to do is run the setup program from the included CD for your version of Mac OS. When it completes, reboot per the instructions and when the computer boots back up, open the installation document, connect the device to your Mac, and then follow the steps to configure the device on your computer inside the System Preferences menu.
the wifi on my mac doesn't work and i have tried a few other small USB wifi adapters and the first few i tried were flaky and one broke pretty quick. this one is a little larger but gives me a good signal. my only complaint is the actual USB connector is plastic and feels a little flimsy.
After trying several methods- restarting, deleting and creating new network, running diagnostics, etc.One simple thing fixed the connection.I opened Itunes and naturally it did not connect to wifi, but i scrolled through some of my songs. I quit Itunes, app store and safari.Opened Safari and whalaaa!!!!Maybe something to do with your Itunes, Safari or App store having to sync.
My dear fellow, you have been a great helpAfter going to sleep, after opening the lid, wifi is nearly immediatly back on trackWonderfull, now up to next bug in the band since the upgrade to sierra on my beloved macbookpro (2011)All the best from Belgium
I followed step 1 above and it worked for about an hour. I left the lid open and let the mac go to sleep and checked several times, but when i closed the lid and opened it, the wifi connection was lost.
I purchased the new MacBook Pro in February and have experienced wifi consistently dropping after waking from sleep mode since purchasing. I spoke with Apple three separate times and got three different fixes, but they only worked temporarily. I tried step 1 above and so far so good. Thank you!I hope it lasts.
This was so helpful! I updated my harddrive and RAM and installed Sierra at the same time and was confused at the crazy slow internet. Deleting my wifi preferences fixed everything. Thanks so much for great info!
What solved the problem permanently (at least for last 6 months) was to split my networks on the router. By split, I mean to create two wireless networks with two distinct names. One for 2.4GHz, one for %GHz, i.e., mywifi2 and mywifi5. Then connect to both of them, so Mac can choose either.
I have a different problem. i use my mobile to tether my internet using pdaNet on Sierra. That part works just fine and a new connection en2 is setup. When I try to share this new connection via wifi all seems to work fine and I can connect other devices to the wifi but no traffic is being allowed. I even turned the firewall off on my MacbookPro but nothing seems to help. Any ideas?
I tried all these fixes, and my problem with hi latency and unstable wifi connection remains the same. Then, I tried a TP-LINK external USB Wifi module, I installed the TP-LINK drivers and this external WFi module worked just fine, as expected. The funny thing is that after the installation of the TP-LINK drivers, the integrated MacbookPro WiFi begun to work fine too.
thank you, this is what helped me from all advices here. There is another problem thoug. My wifi is fine now, but the cursor movement is sometimes glitchy and lagging. Have you experienced this also?
I was having intermittent problems with wifi on my MBP in El Cap. Finally fixed it by simply turning off bluetooth. Tried a bunch of other stuff to fix but this is what did it for me. Rock solid again!
I am having wifi issues and found this page. When I go to the system configuration folder all I see is bundles no plist files at all. I tried holding down the Option key to go to library and also the Go to Folder way.I have 3 Macs and no plist files on any of them. I have been setup as an admin. Did macOS Sierra change any of that.
So I used this at home and it worked fine and all but when I got to school I could not connect to the school wifi could somebody explain what is causing this or how I can stop it but also keep my changed adresss?
For those saying that it does not work:1. Keep the first 3 octets (XX:XX:XX:YY:YY:YY, keep the Xs)2. Turn back on, the wifi before changing the MAC address3. change addressRunning on Mojave 2ff7e9595c
